It’s that time of year again. Cold, dark mornings make it more difficult to roll out of bed, and we find ourselves facing an endless battle to stay snug. Well, most of us, that is. As any homeowner who has invested in underfloor heating will tell you, once you’ve made the switch to UFH you’ll never look back.
If you’re tired of fighting to keep your home comfortable year-round, here is an overview of how iClimate Solutions can help.
There are two options when you are looking at installing an underfloor heating system in London, electric or water-based. Both of these options warm your home through radiant heating, that is, from the floor up.
Water underfloor heating systems pump hot water through pipes under your floor to create heat, while electric underfloor heating systems use wiring to do the same. Both are efficient sources of home heating, but the right system for your home will depend on whether you are retrofitting underfloor heating or installing it as part of your build.
There are a host of benefits to installing underfloor heating in your London home, the two most significant being consistent, efficient heating, and more freedom to choose how to live within your home.
Compared to underfloor heating systems, radiators are an inefficient way to heat your home. The way radiators heat a room is by getting to a high temperature (usually 65-75℃), and heating the air within their proximity. Gradually, this warm air fills the room, but depending on the airflow there are often cold spots remaining.
Meanwhile, underfloor heating systems require a much lower temperature (usually 22-29℃ depending on the flooring type) because the heat is evenly distributed across the entire room. Not only does this mean you enjoy a comfortably warm home, but you’ll also save an average of 15% on your heating costs too.
The second benefit to fitting underfloor heating is that you no longer need to organise your home around your heating system. Traditional radiators take up one usable wall in every room, forcing you to arrange your home to suit your heating.
Underfloor heating creates more usable space in every room of your home, and the freedom to create a layout that works for you.
You might be surprised to learn that underfloor heating systems can be installed in most London homes. Both electric and water-based heating systems can take as little as a day per room to install.
While electric systems offer the quickest installation time, hydronic underfloor heating has the lowest running costs, so both certainly have their benefits. Not sure which is right for your home?
